Ding Yuxi - Chu Kong
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
COMMENTARIES:
*DISCLAIMER*: I have read the full novel of this drama and the premise
has changed so I will try my best to not compare but there aren’t any
guarantee’s. π¬
Episode 1:
Episode 5:
Lu Chang Kong (LCK) still as sweet as ever like Lu Hai Kong (name of ML in novel). ❤️
Episode 7:
I so want! This figurine is stinking cute like they were in the animal arc.
Xiangyun is finally falling for Lu Chang
Kong! It’s so cute she was waiting for him to visit. But oh goodness, let
the 1st life times angst begin. Lu Chang Kong picked up on the
shady behavior his father was doing. And it doesn’t look bright for the Lu
family. Dad’s building a private army to go against the emperor? Poor
Changkong spent countless nights trying to find out the truth and now that
we’ve gotten to this point, he wants to protect Xiangyun like he promised.
But I’m not so sure it’s protecting. He discusses with Xiangyun about
annulling the engagement but XY won’t have it. She wants to help him but of
course, LCK won’t drag her down. Ding Yuxi stays coming in clutch with the
emotional moments. The way he tried to hold his emotions in as she angrily
walked away was great. I had a little moment myself. He loves her so much. π
The other side characters still don’t
really have much of a purpose but that 3rd prince… screams shady.
I’m not so much a big fan of how’s he doing things. Whether he remembers
heaven realm or not, he’s such a homewrecker. Trying to be patient and
understand his purpose. He implicated the Lu family to the emperor so now,
this so called friend has his own motive. Let this part be executed nicely,
please.
Episode 8:
The Lu- Song family ties are too precious.
Chang Kong and Xiangyun both wallowing in sadness over their relationship
while the fathers are being forced to go against each other. I can’t. π₯
Ok. I'm sobbing. Papa Lu and Papa Song's
relationship was so genuine and pure. πI loved that they kept their relationship on a positive note as good
brothers/friends. That scene of them drinking got me good. The silent tears
of sadness while drunk laughing in each other's company had me tearing up.
Not to mention, during the whole investigation process, Papa Song's eyes
were bloodshot red. All thanks to the 3rd prince we got such an emotional
episode. I'm still feeling a little disconnect with the leads but the Papa's
had it on lock showing us the true brotherhood bond.
Everything went by fast but I just knew
Papa Lu set LCK up to protect him. Oh, but our boy did so well when he
showed up to the mess. My goodness Xiao Ding it's too early for you to get
me in the feels! ππ
I'm still hesitant with YCY but the scenes with her father were well done.
I’m warming up to it and she’s improving! I teared up watching her plead in
the rain.
One thing I do wonder about is this
tribulation with Prince Xiuming. When they all go back to heaven, I wonder
if Chu Kong and XY will feel any type of suspicions/bias towards him?
Episode 9:
I want to just give LCK a hug. LCK
reminiscing about his father was quite sad. Everything fell within a blink
of an eye for this guy. π₯
The road ahead will be a bumpy one.
Lu Chang Kong is just as sweet as I
remember him in the novel. After all that happened with his family, he
doesn’t forget Xiangyun. Even if he wants to cut ties with her, he’s too
severely injured to go on his own. I loved how he tried his best to plan
things and protect her as they continue escaping. The villager style outfits
look quite nice on them especially Xiangyun. Cutest looking fake couple lol.
He even tried to pawn off his sword for money so they can have a place to
stay. Small details matter and LCK keeping the jade she gave him close by
was endearing.
A quick mention, this 3rd prince, a.k.a Chu Kong’s immortal
bestie, Xiuming is quite the typical mastermind prince who plans to take
over the throne. Why am I not surprised he’s the one who aided his dad’s
illness?
Episode 10:
Urghhh… this 3rd prince. He’s ruining everything. Xiangyun agreed to marry him “temporarily” for the sake of her family’s reputation but we know damn well, he’s not going for “temporary”. I’m just glad at the end of the episode she overheard the 2 princes’ conversation and knows the true colors of 3rd prince. He truly is the quietest dog that barks the loudest. No one suspected him until now and I give him credit for that but he can get under your skin. But I’m starting to feel like he did not drink the amnesia water. His inner monologue about the marriage has me questioning a few things.
Lu Chang Kong on the other hand is an
opponent well matched for 3rd prince. I’m thankful LCK’s
character is shown here as the general that they praised him to be. Every
one of his assistants glossed over the 3rd prince because of his
past reputation. LCK luckily was able to quickly piece together 3rd
prince’s behavior/tactic and lead a great strategic ambush.
The news of Xiangyun’s marriage doesn’t sit
well with Chang Kong. The jade pendant fell and broke. I guess I’ll go and
prepare the tissue boxes for my most awaited scene from the
novel.
Episode 11:
Oh, my goodness! Her parent’s story had me
tearing up. They planned everything to help her escape and, in the end, died
in prison together. They were so loving. When mom drank the poison first
because she knew she wasn’t going to handle it well if he went first. π’
We didn’t get much of her parents but man these actors pulled together the
emotions.
We’re inching closer and closer to the snow scene. Xiangyun’s stuck in this trap despite her father’s warning. I don’t care for the marriage or scheming 3rd prince has planned. Lu Chang Kong planning an ambush is what makes me most excited. The gratefulness in his eyes when all the soldiers and general’s stood alongside him panned out such an emotional moment. I’m ready to see you kick some butt Chang Kong!
Episode 12:
I'm such a big mess right now. ππ So much crying. This snow scene was exactly how I imagined it to be and it hit me in the feels once again. That rush feeling when he took her hand and ran with the background music had my heart racing mad crazy. Ding Yuxi did not let any tears go to waste. I’ve always been a fan of how good he can emote his feelings but today it blew me away. The snow, the blood, the eyes filled with sadness. Oh, my goodness! πThis scene is the exact reason I couldn’t look at snow the same for months. Whether in real life or in other dramas, it’d hit me with a little reminder of Lu Hai Kong (ML’s name in novel). The significance of snow in this novel amplifies as they go through more lifetimes and that’s how much of an impact this novel had on me.
(I'm not crying, you're crying. Oh who am I kidding?! We're all crying π)
This lifetime was the longest in the novel
and it felt sort of draggy in the drama but now that it's ended, I'm
reminded why it's my favorite arc. Chu Kong hates romantic love the most and
even though their love in this lifetime isn't "real", the experience so much
so is. They both now understand the pains and emotions of love. LCK and SXY
may not exist anymore but the experience was impactful. Like any human,
until you've experienced something, you won't understand it. Which is why
it's easy for everyone to tell Xiangyun it's just a tribulation but it's
simply not. Chu Kong didn't have his memories making it feel more real to
him because LCK's feelings were genuine. So even if there are changes, I
loved that they kept this part. It's setting the tone for the rest of the
lifetimes to come.
Chu Kong is in denial once he returns but those last remaining years must have felt like eternity to him. His hair even turned white. Years in mortal world are mere days in Heaven realm. Xiangyun was eager to see him again but LCK waited the longest. π₯Ί
Episode 13:
I loved this
episode. They’re back and as much as Chu Kong wants to deny it, he misses
her! He wiped away her tears when she watched him walk pass her. My heart!
But then 3rd prince shows right back up into heavenly realm.
Urghhh… I’m glad the leads were both hesitant towards him. I mean I would
too after all of that mess. I knew they were going to use the excuse of “It
wasn’t real so don’t apologize for your behavior” but based off of what
Immortal Li said today, I won’t buy it. “"The personality of Immortals when
they go into the mortal realm is based on their underlying personality."
Included with the back story bits from
30,000 years ago, Prince Xiuming is the enemy of Chu Kong not Xiangyun. I
think she’s the Cang Hai they keep mentioning and it seems 3rd
prince was fond of her. He’s out to protect Xiangyun but most likely wants
to take revenge on Chu Kong for killing her. Which means he technically is
the bad guy? This so-called “bestie” is not so bestie material. The story is
getting good! I'm actually not that frustrated with the prince anymore lol.
I just want to know what his motives are.
This is a different type of banter but I
enjoy seeing CK tease XY. He knows he misses her. Chukong’s doing whatever
he can to be with her. Those longing stares as she writes the sutras. π
Can’t wait to see them come full circle with the impact of other lives.
Literally so funny that everyone is shocked at his new behavior. And
Immortal Li getting grilled by CK and XY for such a story. Lol. I’m happy
the Princess of the Sea won’t get in their way anymore. Less thorns, less
headaches.
Episode 14:
Let the competition of Chu Kong and Xiuming continue!
The celebratory dinner was so awkward. The air was so tense. Team Chu Kong
or Team Xiuming? We all know the answer. It was quite funny when he reached
out to grab a crab apple cake but was left with none. Don’t worry Chu Kong,
you’ll get a whole plate to yourself next time.
The marriage pavilion is hilarious! Everyone’s matchmaking skills has me
questioning my own fate. Lol. Immortal Li is next level with his ideology of
sworn enemies to lover’s trope. Does he watch so many dramas like us too?! π€£π.
Chu Kong showing up to the marriage pavilion to “check on” his assistant
changed the vibe real quick. Lol. Immortal Li and the Head master always do
Xiangyun dirty by throwing her under the bus. Xiangyun’s life is truly a
mess now. I must say Chu Kong wasn’t lying when he said he could complete
the matchmaking within an hour. Showoff much? Haha. However, I loved the
difference between him and Xiangyun’s reasoning for the matchmaking tablet
of the general and his lover. He doesn’t want anyone to get hurt but
Xiangyun believes it will help motivate the general. Oh, how lifetime 2 has
affected them so heavily. π’
Talking about that, the conversation as they tiredly look at the stars made for such a special moment. “Being an immortal is good. You can be with your lover for a thousand years.” Xiangyun why did you have to fall sleep?! ☹️ Chu Kong realized that Xiangyun’s memories of heaven realm were intact in the last tribulation. She genuinely cared for him and sacrificed herself despite knowing his standoff-ish behavior to her before mortal realm. Who keeps cutting up onions in here?! ππ
Episode 15:
And the 3rd life time has begun! This is the master/disciple
lifetime. Chu Kong retains his memories but he got Xiangyun to take the
amnesia water. It’s his turn to take charge! I find it funny that he went to
check with Immortal Li for their next lifetime’s story. This Immortal Li is
hilariously chaotic. He’s got a congenital heart disease story line for Chu
Kong and Xiangyun. Oh goodness! π
Best part yet is Chu Kong going along with the plot so long as Xiangyun is
obedient per his request. ππ
I can’t take it.
Xiangyun’s parents are back but instantly get killed again. What in the
cruel fate is this for these parents? And talking about characters being
back, it seems Lu Fang, Lu Chang Kong’s assistant in the 2nd
lifetime plus Zi Hui and that darn Prince Xiuming π
will be involved. Our newest addition is Jin Liang. And honestly, the new
characters they’re portraying has me laughing like crazy. Jin Liang and Zi
Hui playing as Chu Kong’s right/left hand men is a match well done.
Xiangyun’s traumatic experience has caused her to be naΓ―ve and clueless. I
guess this is the obedient you asked for Chu Kong because she’s driving him
crazy already with her innocent behavior. ππ
The best contribution of Prince Xiuming in today’s episode is helping us learn about Immortal’s primordial spirit. If 2 immortals with the same origin enters the mortal realm and voluntarily sacrifices their selves during tribulation, one of them will be offering their spirit to replenish the other. One wins and one loses. Oh great! π’
Episode 16:
Oh, my goodness! My stomach hurts from laughing so much. This episode had
me rolling. πππ
Chu Kong, Xiaoxiang, Qian Ren (Jin Liang) and Qian Mou (Zi Hui) is the
chaotic squad I didn’t know I needed. Let’s just say Chu Kong and Xiaoxiang
would be better off setting explosives for war than being in the kitchen.
And Qian Ren needs to work with Immortal Li when he returns to heaven realm.
His stories are just as chaotic as Immortal Li. But his advice is the best
for making me laugh so hard today.
This whole episode is spent on Chu Kong trying to win over Xiaoxiang’s
heart (literally). However, the best part about this is Chu Kong’s actions
are based off of the real him since his memories are still intact. So we get
a kiss scene based off of miscommunication from Chu Kong and
Xiaoxiang. I just love that Xiaoxiang is clueless about this “love”
thing so everything he does to impress her goes over her head. Ding Yuxi’s
portraying the pouty, irritated, and protective type is hilarious. His
reaction towards Xiaoxiang’s behavior with the piglet he gifted her had me
in tears. His hopes are for her to be reminded of him because pigs should be
her favorite, right? *Reference to the animal arc. But instead, she named
the piglet “stinky” and served him braised pork almost giving him a heart
attack. I’m honestly still laughing as I write this. π€£π€£
Xiaoxiang served him burnt food but Chu Kong almost killed them with his
uncooked poisonous food. It’s twist after twist with these 4. If anything,
this episode made me crave for crab apple cakes. I’m waiting for the day Chu
Kong will get to actually eat them. That’s all he’s asking for and yet they
might all die before getting to eat any. Maybe, wait till you return to
Heaven realm, Chu Kong. Xiangyun will make better ones. π
Episode 17:
2 words: Pair Practice! π€£π€£π€£
This lifetime is compensating for last lifetimes tragedy with copious
amounts of humor. Poor Xiaoxiang being naΓ―ve had no idea she was openly
talking about the bees and the birds. All thanks to Qian Ren’s books about
love. Welcome back “Through the door of yearning”! π€£π€£. Chu Kong and Pei Xiuming’s face filled with shock with her request to be
taught pair practice is hysterical. She truly thought it was martial arts. I
even felt major second-hand embarrassment for her when Qian Ren finally
explains to her what pair practice really is. π³She chased Chu Kong around for days requesting to learn it and he never
helped to spare the embarrassment. That is until Pei Xiuming was going to
get involved with pair practicing. π
Speaking of Pei Xiuming, he’s such a fake. I’m delighted to know Chu Kong
acknowledges his shady behavior. What infuriates me is the fact that he
stole Lu Chang Kong’s storyline to be with Xiaoxiang. Bro can’t even be
original. I have a love-hate relationship with this character. He’s obsessed
with her but for most likely a one-sided love whether its present day or
30,000 years ago. But with this character we’re also getting a better build
up of the past. So again, I understand his purpose. His screen time has been
toned down but that 1st life time ruined him for me.
A highlight: Qian Ren and Qian Mo reporting Pei Xiuming’s every move to Chu Kong ππ
Episode 18:
A sweet episode that triggered Chu Kong’s snow trauma and mine.
Chu Kong decides to teach Xiaoxiang “real” martial arts after cheering her
up from the heaps of embarrassment she encountered misusing the term “pair
practice”. The scene is shot beautifully with graceful movements from our
leads. Visually pleasing to the eyes. I’m enjoying these special moments
they get alone. The conversation they had by the lake nicely built rapport
between the 2 but Chu Kong’s hesitant with his heart disease reminding him
of his true intentions.
Luckily, Chu Kong’s hesitation is thrown away with Pei Xiuming’s marvelous
idea to hold a marriage gathering. This scene was quite adorable. Xiaoxiang
is to choose who she wants to marry by throwing the red embroidered ball to
the crowd of men in front of her including, Chu Kong. Pei Xiuming still had
high hopes she’d choose him but doesn’t he understand she has no clue who
you are? Any who, I’m so happy she walked straight to Chu Kong to give him
the ball. She knew she’d be too clumsy with her throw and potentially miss
her target. Xiaoxiang may be naΓ―ve but her feelings are in the right place.
She doesn’t waver and knows exactly what she wants. Chu Kong fights hard to
hold back his feelings but who could with such a sweet gal.
Even with the subtle sweet moments between the two, with Pei Xiuming
around, never get too overly happy. My man took a huge gamble by sending
Xiaoxiang to the snowy mountaintop to find the cure for Chu Kong’s heart
disease. It’s not that he was so sure it would work but he had hopes, Chu
Kong would give in and sacrifice the Linglong heart to her. I don’t blame
him but I can only imagine what he’d do if it did not work. π
Upon hearing the news of Xiaoxiang’s trip, Chu Kong hurriedly rushes to find
her and let the waterworks begin. He finds her nearly frozen to death
triggering his memories of lifetime 1. ππ
The snow trauma is rushing back in. What I read in the book is coming to
fruition and I don’t think I can handle it a 2nd time.
Episode 19:
"Someone once closed their eyes in the snow and never opened them again." -
Chu Kong ππ
"The one they want to fatten and kill isn't you. It's me." - Xiaoxiang to
"stinky"
Damn. The pain and trauma these 2 are going through. It just gets deeper and
deeper with the angst. Xiaoxiang is starting to remember parts of her past
and has learned of Linglong heart. The road ahead is going to be tear
jerking. The miscommunication and silent treatment won’t be helping nobody.
But of course, as predicted, the Heavenly Emperor is not so heavenly. I
can’t believe he killed Immortal Li. I hope there’s a twist to his
death. Heavenly emperor wants Chu Kong to fail the tribulations. Why?
I have no idea but this will be interesting as he was the one who suggested
him to go through the tribulations.
The biggest highlight: Chu Kong gave her the same golden hairpin from
lifetime 2. We even got a forehead kiss. Oh, how these 2 pulls at my heart
strings with their sweet pure love.
And I can’t forget but our mans FINALLY got his crabapple cakes. ❤️❤️π
Episode 20:
All sorts of crazy mix in this pandora box of an episode. Xiaoxiang
learning of Linglong has started a domino effect to the mess I was not
expecting. Talking to Pei Xiuming did not improve anything either. She now
thinks Chu Kong killed her parents and wants to use her for the Ling long
heart. The second one isn’t technically wrong but obviously, his intentions
have changed at this point. We get another kiss scene but she’s testing out
the Linglong heart theory thus causing more misunderstandings. πBecause let me tell you, when she stabbed him in the chest with that
hairpin, I felt it too. I know your hurt but girl, ya’ll got more life times
to go through. But I can’t blame her wholeheartedly. Chu Kong’s hiding the
fact behind the evil spirit working to take their linglong hearts, Wenrui.
Wenrui is most likely colluding with Heavenly emperor too. Damn. Can’t wait
for them to find out in Heaven realm.
Chu Kong let Pei Xiuming take Xiaoxiang away and I almost flipped. Luckily,
well maybe not so, but Xiuming finally informs Chu Kong about their
primordial spirits each time they go through tribulations. I’m happy he
knows but man, that means we’ll have to prepare for more misunderstandings
and lots of sacrifices. I read the book and know this is coming but the
drama still makes it hit different. Lol. I don’t know if I’m ready for that.
He’s already planning on sacrificing himself in this lifetime. In an odd
way, Pei Xiuming finally came to his senses and told Xiaoxiang, Chu Kong did
not murder her parents. I must thank you for this. I find it sweet Qin Muo
(stone guy) went back to take on Wenrui with Chu Kong. Drama version of
stone guy is too precious. The cliff hanger of Episode 20 though! Xiaoxiang
is activating Linglong transformation?! Let me go click on Episode 21 real
quick! HAHA.
Episode 21:
Episode 22:
The cutest first date! π₯° Chu Kong is swoon worthy.
Episode 23:
Episode 24:
Episode 25:
YAY! The newest arc addition to the story has begun. Cang Hai and Chu Kong’s past will be revealed and I can’t wait to learn more about them. This whole concept is excluded from the novel so I’ve been pondering about the relevancy. And it seems this is the only way to decipher Immortal Li’s clue left to Chu Kong and Xiangyun in the last lifetime.
Episode 26:
This Cang Hai/ Chu Kong arc is piling on humorous bits that I can’t seem to
truly focus on all the villains and their plans. All I got to say is, I need
more of a drunk Chu Kong. He is so stinking cute and hilarious. That giggle
threw me off but had me laughing like crazy. ππ
Cang Hai is a bold woman who knows what she wants. And what she wants is Chu Kong. I love the new personality. The whole “hero saves the beauty” plan has me non-stop laughing. Cang Hai’s acting is so horribly done but Chu Kong continues to fall for it. π€£That poison technique came in handy the 2nd time though.
Episode 27:
ππ₯°ππ₯
Cang Hai and Chu Kong are the cutest. Young love at its finest. I'm just a
little sadden knowing how naive Chu Kong is in this arc. He's such a sweetie
and I love that he continues to put Cang Hai/Xiangyun first. But it's so
easy to tell how their fate came about with the brother and his jealous
scheming ways. However, this means Chu Kong has come a long with his
growth. I just knew they'd go down this route with the sibling
jealousy trope.
The beginning of the episode had me cringing but also giddy seeing their
cuteness. Chu Kong’s sympathy ploy was quite the trick. Ok maybe not lol. It
was adorable to see his reaction when she agreed to stay longer. Basically,
the highlight of this episode is their cuteness plus Chu Kong’s innocent,
care free spirited ways. I mean they both still don’t know each other’s true
identities but have vowed to stay together forever. Better yet, we get the
BIGGEST clue of all. Chu Kong already casted the soul protecting spell on
Cang Hai which is why it didn’t work in the present arc when he tried again.
These parallels and clues are the best!
Episode 28:
Episode 29:
Episode 30:
Holy smokes! I was thinking we’d get some sweet moments between Chu Kong
and Cang Hai but here we are getting exposed to the “Heavenly” Emperor. He’s
a big gas lighter! With super manipulative skills. Toxicity at its finest.
Of course, his motives are none other than the typical c-drama trope of
greed, jealousy, and being power hungry. All of his plans carefully unfolded
and as much as I dislike his behavior, I must say he’s quite the schemer.
Long gone are the days of being annoyed by Prince Xiuming. The “heavenly”
emperor has taken that throne. Literally.
Today’s episode highlighted the undying question of Chu Kong and Xiangyun’s
ability to be tied together. They both linked a strand of their primordial
spirit together and vowed to find each other every life. Oh goodness! I’m
happy to know that this love thread and Chu Kong’s protection spell will
come hand in hand.
The next concern for me is the mystery behind Cang Hai and Ming Yue. Off to
find out what will happen to these twin sisters.
Episode 31:
They finally came back to the heaven realm! *whew* I mean so much went on I
couldn’t even wrap my head around it. The time loop theory is true! That
darn annoying brother erased Chu Kong’s memories causing him to have to go
through each lifetime up until that point. I’m so mind blown! As a few
online commentators and I discussed this theory early on, I did not expect
it to be fully true. But now that it’s come to fruition, my mind can’t even
fully wrap around this concept. The whole cliff scene was a banger! Cang Hai
sacrificed herself in order to end things but Chu Kong came out on top to
break the loop. Ahhh! I can’t take it. Things are really getting heated up
in here.
Now that “Heavenly” Emperor’s true colors have been revealed, I can’t wait
to see how Chu Kong and Xiangyun will deal with him. She’s unpleased but
luckily, Chu Kong is by her side to assist her and take down the emperor. Oh
I can’t wait to see it!
Episode 32:
Episode 33:
LOL! Ding Yuxi playing the cat demon is something I didn’t know I needed.
This drama has truly shown Xiao Ding’s ability to be naturally versatile.
Instantly, he’s portraying the cold indifferent demon King to protect
Xiangyun and pass the tests of these demons. Not once has he wavered to let
his true intentions out. Chu Kong is determined to get out of this loop and
I’m all for it! Anything to see these 2 get the happy ending they deserve.
Please oh please let him obtain that demon power soon!
Despite him being indifferent to Xiangyun, they’re both still hilariously
bantering. How do they do this? I have no idea but I’m glad humor isn’t lost
within the show. She really treats him as a cat. Ding Yuxi must’ve deeply
studied cat behavior. The scene where she tries to hypnotize him with the
toy bell had me rolling. All the motions of cat like behavior were not
missed. π€£
Now onto the spicy part, aphrodisiac has been added into Chu Kong’s wine.
Why am I not surprised? Lol. Xiangyun was able to mask the truth pill but
what about now? Let’s see how these 2 will continue to outsmart the other
demons in court.
Episode 34:
Episode 35:
Poor Zi Hui! πHalf the episode was dedicated to their storyline. Another self sacrifice
down for the books. I just knew Zi Hui wouldn’t let us down. He destroyed
the demon core the “Heavenly” Emperor hungered for. But in turn, he lost his
powers leaving him with a 3-day life span. I’m glad Jin Luo and Zi Hui were
both able to get married. The only sad part is he dissipated right after
drinking the wine. His last moments were bittersweet.
Aside from Zi Hui’s fate, Chu Kong successfully achieved the Demon Power.
But man, tell me why I was devastated when he pretended to not remember
Xiangyun after absorbing it. He really got me! The closure of this story is
nearing and I don’t want any more mess. Luckily, Chu Kong was playing but
why he gotta play us like that. Had me up in my feels for a moment.
Episode 36:
An oddly intense yet draggy episode. "Heavenly" Emperor has discovered Xiangyun's real identity, Cang Hai. I find it lame how he bombarded the mystical forest to retrieve Cang Hai. It was a whopping 5 minutes of us watching everyone fight to destroy/keep the barrier up with their hands in the air. I felt awkward because no real dialogue was exchanged between Chu Kong and "Heavenly" Emperor. A few words of exchange with a mask to veil Chu Kong's identity and then a light show amongst the demons and heavenly realm. What was the purpose of dragging out that scene? π€·♀️
The last 2 episodes air tomorrow and I have no idea how they'll be resolving this. During the semi-battle, Chu Kong seals Xiangyun with a spell to protect her. Xiangyun breaks through and willingly leaves with the "heavenly" emperor to buy time for Chu Kong to enter the void. Which also felt odd because he enters the void and starts swimming around. I'm curious to see how he'll find Cang Hai's remnant spirit. I like that Xiangyun has been consistently true to her words. She's grown to be a stronger person who isn't fearful.
Xiangyun didn't even show any ounce of fear during the thunder trial. The only thing is Xiuming's mirror. Those last 15 minutes that will finalize the mirrors powers sure are taking forever. *Sigh* I'm happy Xiuming can help but man, it was such a spotty episode. I pray for the ending to be a satisfactory one!
NOTES
FINAL REVIEW:
Favorite Episode/ Moment: Ouuu! There are so many to choose from. 7 lifetimes. 7 different stories. How can I choose? But if I must, there's 2 that come to mind. First is the wedding in their 2nd lifetime as Lu Chang Kong and Song Xiangyun. Oh my goodness! A very endearing yet heartbreaking moment. This particular scene was done exactly like in the novel and hits the feels when watching it. My heart still races at the thought of him grabbing her hand to escape.
Secondly, I enjoyed their sweet innocent times as Chu Kong and Cang Hai in Chu Kong's abode. The time where they star gazed and he casted the soul protecting spell on her got me good. It was then and there that Chu Kong sealed the deal on their love story. I'm a mess when I think about it. π
OST Corner:
So many good ones and each one of them will get you in the feels but these are the ones that I'm hooked on.
How could I not choose this one?! This song was used for majority of the opening credits. It always hyped me up every day I would wake up to watch the show. Not to mention, the lyrics actually help with the loop theory. Much power to these small details.
This song was first released months ago but it never hit until I watched the drama. Whenever I hear it, I can picture the longing looks Chu Kong and Xiangyun would give each other. It really makes me reminisce on all of their sweet vulnerable moments. π₯Ί
I'm also a huge fan of background music/music scores. This one is hands down my favorite. After the wedding scene in lifetime 2, this was an instant banger in my book. It wasn't used as much as other BGM's but it easily gets me in the feels. The hyped rush and intense feeling always pumps me up.

* I can't get over how cute they are on/off screen. We were spoiled so much by iQIYI with a variety show of the cast and 4 different magazine shoots. If this isn't a bonus, I don't know what is. Not to mention. Ding Yuxi and Yang Chaoyue are good friends off screen. Very supportive castmates. ππ
